PROFESSIONAL COACHING

Professional coaching for a decision you actually have to make.

This is a separate service from psychotherapy. It is for experienced people in tech, startups and business who have a professional decision with real trade-offs and want a serious place to work it through.

When coaching fits

Coaching fits when the problem can remain primarily professional.

You may be deciding whether to leave a role, take an opportunity, go independent, change direction, deal with a difficult manager or work through a leadership decision with incomplete information.

The fact that a decision is emotional does not automatically make it a psychotherapy problem. A job can matter enormously and still be a work decision.

What we work on

The starting point is the decision itself: what changed, what makes staying attractive, what you expect the alternative to solve, which assumptions are facts and which have not been tested.

The aim is to understand the trade-offs clearly enough to make a decision or identify what needs to be tested before making one.

Professional context

Career decisions are rarely made in clean conditions. Salary, equity matters, family commitments matter. The market may be poor. A title can take years to earn. Going independent sounds different once the question of where clients will come from becomes concrete.

Before psychotherapy, I spent more than 18 years in product and growth, including seven years running a consultancy and work with more than 100 technology companies. The professional context is usually familiar enough that the work can stay focused on the decision rather than explaining the environment.

How sessions work

Assumptions are challenged when they look weak. Options can be tested before they become irreversible where that is practical. If the same decision has been researched for six months and no new information is appearing, more research is unlikely to solve it.

The decision remains yours.

When psychotherapy fits better

Coaching should not quietly turn into psychotherapy.

If every career move becomes panic about disappointing people, a manageable setback feels humiliating, work is damaging your relationship, or the same difficulty with authority keeps repeating across companies, individual psychotherapy may provide a better scope for the work.

If that becomes clear, I will say so directly.

Practicalities

Coaching is online. Format and frequency depend on the decision and are agreed before we begin.
